Indianapolis Cosmetic Dentist Utilizes Porcelain Crowns

While composite fillings will cover just a portion of the tooth, porcelain crowns can encase the entire visible tooth, acting as the new outer surface. Crowns are typically used when a tooth is too broken or decayed for fillings to be an option. Crowns can create a protective shell around the outside of a damaged tooth that helps in not only stabilizing the tooth in question but also can enhance appearance as well. Using a mixture of porcelain and other materials that make it look and feel natural, crowns can help restore teeth to their original shape and are commonly used for broken teeth as well.

How it's done:
The creation and placement of a porcelain crown usually involve two visits to your Indianapolis cosmetic dentists' office. At the first appointment, Dr. Le or Dr. Coffman will take an impression of the tooth and reshape your tooth so that it can accept the crown. The impression will be sent to a dental lab for the final restoration to be created, and a temporary crown will be placed to protect your smile in between visits.

When you return, we will have received the permanent crown from the lab. The temporary crown will be removed and the new one will be fitted. Before cementing it in place, we will ensure it fits comfortably and matches the shade of your teeth.
