Dental Veneers

Are some of your teeth stained or discolored? Are you embarrassed about the way they look because they’re crooked, misshapen, or have uneven spaces in between them? Have you experienced dental trauma, resulting in chipped or broken teeth? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then our Indianapolis dental veneers may be the best option for your smile.

Veneers are custom-made, thin shells that cover the font surface of your tooth to help improve its cosmetic appearance. They can be made from either porcelain or composite resin. Porcelain material is much more durable and tooth-like, but is costlier than its counterpart, composite resin, which is less expensive but doesn’t last as long. During your consultation, you’ll be discussing with Dr. Le and Dr. Coffman, your Indianapolis cosmetic dentists, which option is best for you.

How it’s done:

Typically, you’ll only need two visits to Mitthoeffer Family Dental for your veneers to be placed. At your first visit, your teeth will be prepared to accept the veneers. This can include trimming a portion of your tooth so that the bonded veneer can fit on top. An impression will also be taken of your teeth to send to a dental laboratory that will prepare your final, new veneer. Until then, you may receive a temporary veneer to wear in-between your visits to protect your smile.

At your second visit, your temporary veneer will be removed if it was placed. Now that your new veneer has been received from the dental laboratory, we’ll first check to see if it fits well. This check is important because it’s best not to adjust the veneers after they’re bonded to your teeth. We want to make sure it’s perfect the first time, so any necessary adjustments will be made beforehand. Once you’re satisfied with the way the veneer looks when you smile and feels in your mouth, it’ll be bonded to your tooth.

Taking care of your veneers is just the same as taking care of your natural teeth. Make sure you’re still brushing and flossing every day, twice a day, to ensure that these veneers last as long as possible. Neither your diet or daily routine will have to change with your new veneers!

Reasons for Veneers and How to Make Sure You’re Making the Right Choice for Your Smile

What are some of the common reasons that people look towards veneers for a new smile?

You don’t like the way your smile looks.

Your teeth are chipped, cracked, or broken.

You have one or multiple gaps in between your teeth.

Your teeth are thoroughly stained and teeth whitening products aren’t working.

Your teeth are worn down due to grinding and jaw clenching.

Your teeth are uneven, misaligned, or have an irregular shape.

If you’re interested in dental veneers, then there are certain things to keep in mind. While brushing and flossing are of the utmost importance for dental care at home, there are other recommendations that we believe patients should follow.

Let us know the goals of your smile and what you want it to be. Help us identify the things about your teeth that you want to change and what your realistic expectations are for your new smile.

Protect your smile from periodontal disease. This can hinder your chances of receiving cosmetic dental treatments, since it may have ruined your teeth far too much and your natural smile won’t be able to support your cosmetic changes.

Have a healthy amount of dental enamel. The enamel is the hard, outer surface of your tooth that protects the nerves and tissue on the inside. If your enamel is too thin and weak, your tooth may not be able to support the veneer and you may need a different cosmetic service.

Does Stress or Anxiety Affect Your Smile? Let Us Know!

One of the most commonly affected areas of your health due to stress is your teeth. There are countless people who suffer from anxiety and stress that cause damage to their smile without realizing it until it’s too late. Whether it’s biting their nails, using their teeth as tools, or grinding and clenching, these are all reasons that your teeth could be suffering.

If your teeth have been damaged because of a stress or anxiety-induced scenario, please let us know! While giving you veneers can improve the way your smile looks and hide the unattractive chips and cracks, your veneers can also suffer if this isn’t properly identified. The work of rejuvenating your smile will be reversed if you continue your bad, stressful habits. While porcelain veneers are strong, they can quickly be worn down if they aren’t properly taken care of.

Our Indianapolis cosmetic dentists will work together with you to identify how your stress or anxiety and how we can help protect your smile in more ways than one.
