Tooth Extractions

In a dental extraction procedure, the tooth is removed from the mouth. This treatment is typically only sought after if all other forms of rehabilitation have been exhausted, and the tooth is damaged beyond repair. Some common reasons for extraction include:

  • The tooth is severely decayed or damaged
  • Advanced gum disease impacts the structure of the tooth
  • A tooth is blocking other teeth from coming in
  • To create room for relocation during orthodontic work
  • Wisdom teeth are often extracted either before or after they come in

What to expect
Dr. Le or Dr. Coffman will first administer a numbing agent to the area to reduce any discomfort. During the extraction, you will feel the pressure of the tooth being removed, but not any pain. Typically the entire process will only take a matter of minutes.

Following the extraction, a small amount of bleeding is considered normal and will taper off during the next 24 hours. We will provide you with instructions for changing your gauze, as well as dietary and medication guidelines before the procedure. If bleeding does not subside or you have any other questions- make sure to call our office ASAP to discuss the procedure.
