East Indianapolis Dental Office Discusses Dental Bridges

To help replace missing teeth, many patients will seek the assistance of a dental bridge. Gaps in the teeth can potentially result in surrounding teeth shifting, trouble speaking or eating, and more- so should be resolved as soon as possible.

Bridges work by utilizing the 2 surrounding teeth as "anchors," which hold a false tooth in a place where the gap is. Usually, porcelain crowns are placed on the surrounding teeth, and a false tooth called a pontic is fused between them.

How it's done:
Two visits to our East Indianapolis dental office are required to place a dental bridge. At the first visit, the surrounding teeth will be filed down so that porcelain crowns can fit over them. Then, an impression of the teeth will be taken to send out to the laboratory to create your bridge and crowns. Finally, a temporary bridge will be placed to protect your smile in between visits.

At the second visit, the temporary bridge is removed and the new bridge received from the laboratory is fitted and adjusted. Multiple visits may be necessary to check and adjust the fit.
