Dental Exams and X-Rays

When you're visiting Mitthoeffer Family Dental for your bi-annual dental cleaning, you should also be receiving a dental exam completed by your East Indy dentist, Dr. Coffman. These exams can help you work with Dr. Coffman to maintain great oral health in between your appointments. Thankfully, as you continue to keep up with these visits, you'll also be preventing the discomfort and financial obligations that are associated with more substantial treatment plans in the future. When you visit our office twice a year, most dental issues can be identified and treated during its early stages.

How it's done

Before your dental cleaning is performed by one of our skilled hygienists, Dr. Coffman will examine our mouth with the help of our advanced technology of high-intensity lights, assorted dental tools, and other necessary equipment. We'll be looking for cracks and decay in your teeth and will also review/perform the following:

• Medical history review

• Oral cancer screening

• Gum disease evaluation

• Examination of existing restorations

Your dental hygienist will also take diagnostic x-rays to reveal any problems that can't be seen by the naked eye, most commonly found issues below the gumline. Bitewing x-rays are typically taken once every year and a panographic, whole-head surrounding x-ray is taken every 3-5 years.
