Dental Exams and X-Rays
Alongside your twice-yearly dental cleaning, you should also be receiving a dental exam at the same time to maintain great oral health. These visits can help prevent the discomfort and financial obligations associated with more substantial treatment plans later on. At the twice-yearly interval, most dental issues can be caught and treated while still at an early stage.
How it's done:
Following your cleaning with one of our skilled hygienists, Dr. Le or Dr. Coffman will examine your mouth using mirrors, high-intensity lights, and assorted handheld dental tools. They will be looking for cracks or decay in the teeth, and will also review/perform the following:
Medical history review
Oral cancer screening
Gum disease evaluation
Examination of existing restorations
Additionally, diagnostic x-rays will be taken to reveal any problems that can't be seen with the naked eye...such as those below the gumline. Bitewing x-rays are typically taken once every year, and a panographic, whole-head surrounding x-ray is taken every 3-5 years.
